Could Having Weight Loss Surgery Lead to More Surgery?

Weight loss should ideally be achieved through diet and increased fitness, but there are becoming more and more instances where weight loss surgery is the only way to restore wellness and wellbeing. Weight loss surgery is becoming more and more common, especially amongst obese adults who may have struggled for a number of years to lose weight through traditional methods, and not had much success.

Once weight loss surgery is complete, however, the story is not over. After the surgery, many people find that they lose significant amounts of weight, and so many people are left with a lot of excess skin. Many of them then have to consider further surgery to have what is known as a ‘body lift’, which removes excess skin and tones up the appearance of the body.

For many weight loss patients, getting rid of this excess skin is as important a process as the weight loss surgery itself. That is because despite the weight loss, many patients are unable to enjoy their new physiques as the excess skin makes their actual body contour less than ideal. That is why many people who have had weight loss surgery opt for further surgery in the form of a body lift.

A body lift is cosmetic surgery and takes a multi-dimensional approach to the body. The surgery not only removes any excess skin from the mid-section of the body, it also involves multiple cosmetic surgeries to improve the look of the waist, abdomen, pelvis and hips. This is not simply a case of whipping off some excess skin – this is a series of treatments where liposuction is used again and again on the most troubled areas of the body. Typically, there are some areas of scarring, but the incisions tend to be small and inconspicuous.
