What Were the Worst Fitness Products of the Year?

Have you seen the late night infomercials for fitness or weight loss related products? They all look amazing, don’t they, and seem to guarantee success without much effort altogether. Are these products really the solution, though – can they really bring improved wellness and wellbeing, or are they just a gimmick designed to help you part with your hard-earned cash?

Unfortunately, like most of what you see on television, infomercials are based far more in entertainment than in fact. This year has seen more than its fair share of rubbish products, which promise the earth but are unlikely to produce any real results.

The FaceTrainer is one of these. This has been produced by the makers of the No!No! Hair Removal System, which is an extremely poorly rated hair-removal gadget, and retails at around $299. Its purported use is to tone the muscles of the face and it wraps around your head somewhat like a wrestling mask.

The manufacturer claims that this product can actually reverse the signs of aging without having to resort to anything like Botox injections. Of course, if you stop to think about it for a second, the idea of training your face to fight against the signs of aging is completely ridiculous. Your skin naturally loses elasticity as you get older and there is no amount of working out that can fight against this.

Vibration Plates are another product, which have actually made a bit of a comeback this year rather than being brand new. These have been in and out of fashion for years, but have never, ever worked. These have a sort of vibrating base and then handles that you hold onto to balance whilst standing on the plates. The contraption then shakes your body and you don’t have to make any effort. As nice as the idea of standing still and toning up at the same time is, this simply does not work.
