Friends gather for a great time to help cancer foundation

IN a night filled with friends, fun and prizes, Marilyn Steel managed to raise $2000 for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

Friends and work colleagues attended the fun night on Saturday to raise money for the cause which hits close to home.

Mrs Steel’s mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and two years ago, in February 2012, she died.

“It seems like the timing is right,” she said.

“It’s ovarian cancer awareness month and it’s something that impacts my family directly.”

She said 25 people had attended the fundraiser on Saturday.

“We had a really good night and I’ve had only positive feedback.”

The night went so well, they are looking into hosting a similar event next year too.

“We had really good support from individuals and businesses.”

Throughout the white themed night the women were treated with nibbles, drinks and several gift packs were raffled.

She was also pleased to hear upon contacting the research foundation, that this year they will have a stronger focus for “white parties”.
