Researchers at the Mitchell Cancer Institute may have discovered an early detection test for a deadly cancer, almost by accident. We’re talking about pancreatic cancer, which is often discovered too late. It is often advanced when it is discovered leaving patients with little time and little hope.
Researchers in Dr. Lewis Pannell’s lab say while they were delving into colon cancer research, they discovered a possible marker that may indicate pancreatic cancer is present. They feel they are on the verge of a breakthrough, which is exciting news for pancreatic cancer patients. Now, researchers at the Mitchell Cancer Institute are asking for volunteers to help them continue their work. Dr. Jana Rocker says, “We could use volunteers. We are looking for people with family members who have had pancreatic cancer. It definitely can follow in family lines so we are looking to get samples from people who have pancreatic cancer in their family.”
If your family member has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer or you have had pancreatitis, call the Mitchell Cancer Institute and ask for Dr. Lewis Pannell’s office at (251)445-9860.
