Gymnastics action to begin in Rajkot

AHMEDABAD: The tiny city of Rajkot is set to host as many as 200 national and international level gymnasts as the 54th Junior Artistic National Gymnastics Championship (boys and girls), organized by Gujarat Gymnastic Association and Rajkot District Gymnastics Association under the aegis of Gymnastics Federation of India in association with Ehsaas Foundation, will be flagged-off on Friday at the Swami Vivekanand Indoor Stadium in Saurashtra University.

These gymnasts, who are aged between 13 to 17 years, belong from as many as 18 states from across India. One among them is Arik Dey of West Bengal who won a bronze medal in the Children of Asia Games in Russia in 2012 and also participated in World School Games 2013 in Brazil.

A total of 14 gold medals will be up for grabs with eight in boys and six in girls categories.

The performance of gymnasts will be judged by Indian international and national judges from various states.

Artistic gymnastics is one of the most popular disciplines of gymnastics which has been a part of the Olympics.

The tournament will see six apparatus for boys-Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings, Table Vault, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar and four apparatus for girls-Table Vault, Uneven Bars, Balancing Beam and Floor.
