Cutting Breakfast Carbs Cuts Diabetes Risk

An international team, led by University of British Columbia Okanagan researchers, suggests that a simple tweak to the first meal of the day might help people control their blood sugar levels better. Their study, published in the ‘American Journal of Clinical Nutrition’, has found that if you are trying to manage type 2 diabetes, have a low-carb breakfast. It stabilises blood sugars throughout the day. Also, people who have a low-carb breakfast have self-reported to have lower calorie and carbohydrate intake at lunch and during the rest of the day as well. This could suggest that a breakfast rich in fat and protein, while lower in carbs, can impact daily eating habits. By making a small adjustment to the carb content of a single meal rather than the entire diet, we can obtain significant benefits.
