One held for running flesh trade racket

Police arrested one person for running a prostitution racket from a hotel and recovered valuables worth Rs 1.19 lakh from his possession here on Wednesday night. Brijesh alias Krishna Yadav, 31, had brought a woman from Mumbai and had also invited clients from the city. Police investigation revealed that Yadav charged Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 from each customer of the woman.

One accused from Mumbai, Shafiq is yet to be arrested. He used to arrange girls for Yadav from Mumbai. Shafiq has been declared wanted by police and they say his arrest can reveal more details about the racket. Yadav, a resident of Nakshatra Pletina Apartment in Adajan, used to offer money to the women for being a part of the flesh trade and made arrangements for their stay in the hotel, where the clients too were invited.

Yadav used to circulate photographs of the women to their prospective clients through a mobile application. Once a woman was selected by a client, he asked his associate in Mumbai to send the woman to the city.

Police had received information from locals in the area about the racket.

“The accused was arrested in the past too for running a prostitution racket. He used to arrange women from Mumbai. He pressurized the woman to follow his instructions by keeping her valuables like jewellery, cash and phone with him till the period of her stay in Surat,” police said.
