Marianne Kloeckner was awakened by her dog after a massive fire started early Sunday in a barn adjacent to her home in the tiny community of Two Mile in north-central B.C.
Kloeckner, 50, called her friend Edward Green who lives nearby.
When he arrived, Green said the fire was uncontrollable and within minutes all five of the structures on the farm burned to the ground. “She lost everything, including her car,” said Green.
He describes Kloeckner, an adult education teacher, as someone who was always there for others when needed.
“She would never say no to anyone in need,” he said.
And while they managed to save some of the livestock on the farm, some chickens and ducks were killed in the fire. The goats, however, managed to scamper to safety.
Green feels the blaze was caused by an electrical problem.
“Her house is built on an old trailer and the wiring was bad,” he said.
The fire comes as friends were attempting to rebuild a side of the house to make it into one unit.
Some of the supplies for that renovation had already been purchased and everything went up in the blaze.
A campaign to help rebuild a house for Kloeckner has started.
Green said she is very independent and is having a hard time accepting help.
“She is under a lot of stress,” Green said of the loss.
Kloeckner is staying with her parents who live in the Smithers area.
