‘The Walking Dead’ season 5: The casting that never was

What an interesting story we have courtesy of Chase Vasser and “The Walking Dead,” and if we were to sum it up in a very simple way, it would be by saying this: Social media can be a curse if you don’t know how to use it properly.

When the rumors first started regarding University of Georgia athlete Chase Vasser getting a role on season 5 of “The Walking Dead,” he didn’t do very much to deny them. As a matter of fact, he seemed to only further push the rumors even further. Basically, this became a giant mess. (In general, the guy just seems to have a habit of sharing so much more information about things than he really needs to.)

Anyway, this whole story took new life this week, when Vasser said on Twitter that he will not be on “The Walking Dead,” and that he is tweeting about some other things now that can be classified as “zombie entertainment.” Meanwhile, “Walking Dead” executive producer Gale Ann Hurd said that he “made up” everything when it comes to him possibly getting on the show, said that he was never cast, and then referred to him via hashtag as a “fraud.” Strong words.

From the Vasser perspective, we understand the value of getting your name out there as a young actor, but there’s a right and wrong way to do it. The last thing you ever want to do is burn bridges, and it feels like he has done just that.
