Last Saturday and Sunday saw the conclusion of the Tathra lawn bowling club pairs competition.
On Saturday, the second round matches were completed with Dave Savill and Craig Colligan firing to defeat Greg Mallard and Wayne Lawler.
Peter Rose and John Black overcame their more fancied rivals Hedley Waugh and John Chalker, while Lachlan Gordon and James Reynolds eased past Zac Horvat and Don Maxwell and Glen Leathers and Jamie Woods defeated Darren Collins and Ross Gordon.
Sunday morning saw the semi-finals with Gordon and Reynolds taking on Savill and Colligan.
The other match was Rose and Black taking on Leathers and Woods.
In the first semi-final, Gordon and Reynolds started strongly only for Savill and Colligan to take the lead 11-10 at halfway mark.
The lead changed 17-11 in favour of Gordon and Reynolds which they were able to maintain in spite of superb bowls by their opposition.
In the second match, Leathers and Woods jumped out to an early lead before Rose and Black clawed their way to level 9-9.
Then they continued to draw their way to an unassailable win.
The grand final saw the experienced Rose and Black take on 14-year-old Gordon and veteran Reynolds.
Gordon and Reynolds jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but Rose and Black quickly levelled at 6-6.
This trend continued for the match with scores level 12-12 and 16-16 with twoends to go.
At this point the quality of the match was just top notch with the heads changing regularly.
Gordon and Reynolds claimed one shot, with scores 17-16.
With both teams holding shot early on the last end, it was Gordon who trailed the jack for four shots.
Rose and Black went astoundingly close to claiming back the shot, but ultimately Gordon’s bowl won the day.
The final score was 21-16 in favour of Gordon and Reynolds.
