Why the Blame Game Solves Nothing

TV watching has been a favourite pastime of kids for generations. I can remember watching it for hours when I was younger, not wanting to do anything else. I can’t think of much worse nowadays, programs don’t have the same draw as the once did and to be honest adverts are too numerous and I just can’t be bothered with wasting my time with that anymore. For kids though, the TV remains an addictive pastime and it’s long been blamed for all sorts of disorders.
Just like computer games, critics are quick to blame the television for undue aggression or lack of attention. And like with video games, parents are very quick to whip themselves into a TV hating fervour but should they?
Well, think about it. If you spend all your time doing one thing it is going to influence you a bit. But then, your kids shouldn’t be watching that much violent TV anyway and if they are that’s on parents and not the television companies. If they don’t want them watching certain TV then they should turn it off. I spent most of my childhood watching telly and turned out alright, I’m yet to rob a bank or commit arson and I’ve got attention span enough to hold down a job and have a life.
I think it’s important to remember moderation in all thing. TV alone isn’t going to harm your kids as long as they’re doing a diverse set of other things too and if you moderate what they watch and when they can watch it then chances are there’ll be more good than bad taken.
