This Saturday the 3rd annual Blondes vs Brunettes flag football game takes place at DU’s lacrosse stadium and while they might wear ponytails and big sunglasses, these gals haven’t been practicing for a fluffy football game.

On December 3, 2005, the first Blondes vs. Brunettes (BvB) game was played in Washington, DC. BvB founders Sara Allen Abbott and Ryan Triplette each had a personal connection to Alzheimer’s and wanted to create an event that would raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association and generate awareness and concern about the disease among other young professionals.

With the support of other dedicated young women, the first BvB raised $10,000. To-date, BvB is played in more than 30 cities across the country and has raised over $4 million nationally for the Alzheimer’s Association. 2014 marks Denver’s third year hosting a BvB Game, and they are currently on track to raise $100,000 this year alone

All proceeds from Denver’s Blondes vs. Brunettes game go to the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado to support its programs and services, including education, counseling, support groups, and a 24-hour Helpline at no cost to families, as well as research to prevent, treat and eventually conquer this disease

Tickets to the game on June 14th are $25 and can be purchased at the gate.
