BARREL RACING: Gillette College freshman Taylor Engesser and Rowdy won the second go-round Tuesday with a 13.83-second run and took the lead in the average with a two-run time of 28.17 seconds.
“I had a better first barrel than I did Monday,” Engesser said. “After that things just clicked and I had a real smooth run.”
Engesser, who has two no-times in the breakaway roping, now has to wait until later in the week before making her third run in each event. She competes Thursday in breakaway and Friday in barrel racing.
“I’m just going to take it easy and make sure my horses are exercised,” Engesser said. “I just need to make another smooth run in the barrels and go for day money in the breakaway.”
Chadron State College’s Amy Diechert, the first rider out Tuesday, was second in the go with a 13.89 and is fifth in the average with a 28.38.
