Stress, Drugs and Trying to Console…

Stress is the plague of the modern age. There’s almost nobody who won’t suffer from stress at some point in their life. Certain people thrive on it and almost need it to go on, it makes them feel needed and important and when they find themselves without it, it can be disconcerting and even a little scary. These people are seemingly addicted to stress but, it doesn’t matter how much you may like to conceivably need stress, it’s not good for you.

Experiencing stress for long periods of time can lead to all sorts of medical complications and even, in some cases death. The most common of these complications are involved in the circulatory system and the heart. Stress increases blood pressure which can be a factor in heart disease and coronary arrests.
As well as the complications which come directly from long term stress, there are other issues which can arise when people try and deal with their stress in the wrong ways. Common ways of dealing with stress which can be harmful to us are eating, drinking or taking other substances.
Though these solutions may provide a temporary fix, for the most part they’ll come with their own potent downsides and they won’t actually solve the problem. Drinking to deal with stress can lead to alcoholism and eating away your stress can lead to obesity and the health complaints related to that.

Some healthier solutions to stress are:

–                    Taking a walk. This might seem simple but it can give you a period of time away from the stress in which you can recoup and think things through. Problems are always easier to handle when you come at them from a calm place as opposed to one full of stress.

–                    Calling a Friend. Sometimes all you need to do is vent and having a close friend or loved one listen to what you have to say can be a huge relief. They can also offer an alternate viewpoint which is always a valuable amenity.

–                    Reading a book. The ultimate escapism, you’ll leave your stress behind as you delve into another world. If you enjoy reading this can be a great easer of stress!
