Dietary Additions Which Will Increase Your Wellness

You can’t really do a ‘one size fits all’ on nutrition. Though our requirements may be essentially the same we all have different allergies, resistances and diets and as such we’ll all need to eat more of some things and avoid other things like the plague. However, allergies notwithstanding, there are always certain foods which most of us could use more of in our diets. As such we’ve put together a list of things to counter the most common deficiencies in our diets:

  • Fibre – Easily missed. If you’re a regular cereal eater then try changing your regular breakfast cereal to a high-fibre alternative. Fibre helps to protect you against weight gain and cancers of the gut by helping keep your digestive processes functioning properly.
  • Vitamin D – This vitamin helps to improve the health of your bones as well as providing a wide array of other protective services. It’s been shown to offer some protection from several cancers, diabetes, heart disease and even some auto-immune conditions. Vitamin D is most commonly gleaned from our skins exposure to sunlight but it can also be taken as a supplement which may be the only viable option for those living in colder and darker countries.
  • Omega 3 – This reduces blood pressure, fat in blood, levels of inflammation and improves brain function. Omega 3 oils are found most commonly in oily fish such as tuna, salmon, trout and sardines.
  • Broccoli – Consider this a super food. Not only is broccoli chock full of fibre it’s also got high levels of vitamin A, vitamin C, folate, iron and calcium it also has a positive effect on our cholesterol levels. Get as much of this vegetable into your diet as you can manage, you’ll thank yourself for it in the end!
