Anti-Depressants Take Up To Six Months To Kick In

Depression is a condition which is sometimes overlooked in terms of seriousness largely due to the fact it’s psychological and people can’t see it. Though we’re all a lot better at talking about and dealing with mental health issues now, they’re still fairly taboo subjects and it can be easy to feel like you can’t talk about your condition. It can be even easier to feel embarrassed or ashamed of it. The fact is that, just like physical conditions, depression could affect anyone and it’s nothing which you should feel bad about. You should go and get the help you need and be proud of yourself for doing so.

Most people will suffer from a touch of depression at one time or another in their lives. For the majority it will pass by almost unnoticed or can be treated with the smallest lifestyle changes. Talking about it can sometimes be enough; the amount of anxiety not being able to talk about something can actually be a massively exacerbating factor for conditions like depression.

If you’re unfortunate enough to be dealing with a form of depression which is so severe that changes in your life won’t help to cure it, then anti-depressants might be necessary. These are drugs which can be taken to help perk you up in general and generally work very effectively in doing so.

The issue with them is that they can take a very long time to kick in the first place and if you’re living with depression each additional day you’re stuck with it can seem like an eternity. Mostly it can take a month or so for the anti-depressants to kick in but sometimes it can take as long as six months for the same effects to occur!

Scientists are currently working on new treatments which will come into effect in days rather than weeks but it could be a while before we see this progress for ourselves!
