Office rudeness is a fact of life for a great many people. We’re not all lucky enough to work in the perfect environment. In a small survey around 12% of people said they’d left previous employment due to office rudeness. In places where the stress and tension runs high anyway it can be easy to let things which wouldn’t normally get to you, break you down a bit. Sometimes it’s because you have to see these people every day, sometimes it’s just people knowing how to push your buttons. Regardless of why, rudeness in the office can make your life much more difficult and much less pleasant. How do you deal with it?
You stop caring so much, you ignore it and you report it if it’s reportable. Be blunt and to the point with people who are rude to you, don’t show any upset in the slightest but instead be dismissive. Just like the bullies at school, most people who are rude to you in later life are just looking for a reaction. If you don’t give that reaction then they’ll get bored and wander off. Remember that if it gets aggressive or they’re genuinely upsetting you, report it. The person in charge will be obliged to investigate it, as poor conduct in the office has a detrimental effect on everyone, not just you.
