New Anti-Ageing Pill Proves Ineffective In New Study

A new claim for a miracle pill that could help us live until we are 150 could be a reality, according to newspaper headlines, but a recent study suggests that these claims remain unfounded. The drugs are based on molecular research into the compound resveratrol, which is found in dark chocolate and red wine, and has been linked to a protein known as sirtuins. Such proteins have been linked to increasing the lifespan of worms, flies and yeast, which researchers believe could be the next step towards creating a pill which could increase the lifespan of humans. They could also play a part in helping to cure age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.

The study was carried out by Harvard Medical School, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the US National Institutes of Health, GlaxoSmithKline and institutions in Portugal and Australia. Even though the study shows promising medical results in terms of the effect of the protein, researchers are quick to note that such claims of living to 150 are highly flawed, as are suggestions that this pill could be available in the next five years which have no evidence to back them. The research didn’t take into account the other compounds which affect one’s lifespan, so further research needs to be carried out to determine how humans could increase their lifespan.

If you want to improve your health, and potentially your lifespan, you should aim to increase your level of exercise in order to keep your weight at a healthy level, improve flexibility and general wellbeing. In addition to this, you should aim for a balanced diet which incorporates all of the vital nutrients your body needs to stay healthy and fight disease. This, alongside mental exercises to keep your mind agile, will help to prolong your lifespan for as long as possible.
