Stress can be one of the biggest causes of us gaining weight. So if you want to avoid piling on the pounds it’s best to avoid stress. Of course, in our increasingly stressful lives that is usually virtually impossible. So here are three ways to avoid weight gain, especially if you’re getting stressed.
Move all throughout the day
There is no doubt that your morning routine of heading off to the gym for an hour either before or after work is the first victim of a stressful time. That is no big surprise; going to the gym is really time-consuming and can be stressful within itself.
As soon as you accept that you don’t have much time you can address the problem by spreading out your movement throughout the day. It’s worth doing little things like taking a 15-minute walk in the middle of the day. Walk up the stairs instead of taking the elevator.
Get plenty of fuel
Our bodies undoubtedly need fuel and this is especially true when we’re stressed, so you must start the day with a healthy breakfast. That means one that combines carbohydrates and protein. Resist the temptation to skip meals. Between meals, snack occasionally on something healthy: fruit, nuts, hard-boiled eggs. When you’re stressed, and haven’t eaten all day, you’re that much more likely to eat something you shouldn’t.
Breathe
It might seem obvious; after all if you’re not breathing you have much more pressing issues that your weight gain. But when you get stressed it’s worth it to sit back, take a few deep breaths and calm yourself down. This can do wonders for relieving the stress that makes your overeat and gain weight.
