Phoenix Market City on Viman Nagar Road, The United Sports Bar and Grill in Hadapsar and Amanora Mall are among those prepared for a grand celebration of the World Cup.
Most matches start after 9, and Phoenix is making the schedule past 9. “We are basically looking to entertain our customers coming from various places. Pune has a good nightlife and the combination of nightlife and football will be fantastic. Football is a game that no one watches alone. So, either with family or friends you can come here and watch matches while enjoing food and drinks,” said Rajiv Malla, director, Phoenix Market City.
Phoenix is offering a discount on food and liquor. The projectors will be set at the Food Court for convenience of customers. Phoenix has scrambles and puzzles. There are footballs on tables in Phoenix Market City.
Vouchers, gifts, spot trivia and quizzes have been arranged by shops. Private restaurants in Market City have family offers, discounts as well. “People can meet like-minded friends here. In Amanora Township, Hadapsar, plans are under consideration. “We are planning to show matches on big LED screens. And we are hoping that a lot of people turn up,” said Derick Michael, GM, operations at Amanora. However, another club at Amanora has started a lot of fun activities.
The United Sports Bar and Grill, earlier the Manchester United Cafe and Bar, is making sure football fans enjoy this World Cup. Football jerseys have given a sporty look to the cafe. “We have planned many interesting things. We have the biggest screen to watch matches. But everyone is showing matches, so we decided to add spice,” said Sonali Mullick, Head of Operations at the cafe.
“Since the tournament is in Brazil, we arranged a Brazilian Dance Competition. We play World Cup theme songs like ‘Waka waka’ of South Africa 2010 or K’naan’s Wavin’ Flag or Shakira’s La La La for this year’s World Cup. And the person who dances well gets a prize,” added Mullick.
Budweiser, the official partner of FIFA, has tied up with United Sports bar. Food, custom-made for the World Cup, is on offer with Budweiser beverage. “Beer Chugs” is another event planned for customers.
Kumar Pacific Mall on Shankar Sheth Road has created a football pitch on the 3rd floor where a group can play for an hour.
