Experts are now claiming that temperature may have a strong effect on the wellbeing of your skin. A number of new treatments are being developed that involve subjecting the skin to cold temperatures to increase its youthfulness and wellness. These include the now-popular ice facials and a procedure known as Frotox, both of which claim to have the ability to remove lines and wrinkles from your face and make your skin more firm and supple, as well as improving the overall texture.
Demi Moore, a 50-year-old actress who is frequently complimented on her youthful appearance, is recently said to have enjoyed a series of anti-ageing treatments which involved using extremely cold air to blast the skin, in order to restore its former glory.
Originally developed in Japan with the aim of treating rheumatoid arthritis, the treatments are said to work by promoting collagen re-growth. Frotox – a form of Botox which is toxin-free – works by using a technique known as cryoneuromodulation to remove fine lines. Those receiving the treatment have a device that contains liquid nitrogen placed on the facial nerves that control the most common muscles for causing wrinkles, and effectively freezes them.
Leading cosmetic surgeons and therapists are now admitting that this type of freezing therapy can, in fact, be very effective. They state that the freezing effects of the liquid nitrogen effectively paralyse muscles in the face, stopping them from working and the associated lines from appearing. The effects of a treatment such as this are said to last around four months and, to date, no harmful side effects have been reported.
