If you live overseas or are a foreigner living here in Korea and have tried to purchase goods of Korean websites in the past, you’ll be delighted by this news.
From this Tuesday, authentication certificates will no longer be required for online purchases made from abroad.
The Financial Services Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service say shoppers will no longer have to go through the arduous process of submitting authentication of one’s identity when buying goods in excess of roughly 3-hundred U.S. dollars.
Up until now, Internet shoppers had to install Active-X software on their computer and download an authentication program provided by local financial institutions.
The software was a major headache as it did not work on all Web browsers and limited access to online shopping.
