Herbal Tea for Healing
Natural herbs have been used for healing since the dawn of civilization. Herbal teas, or ‘infusions’, are our modern versions of this. Selected herbs are taken fresh or dried and steeped in hot water to extract their medicinal properties. It is a gentle way to detox, relax or rejuvenate and a great boost to your wellbeing. Many of these herbs have been known to have healing qualities. If you are suffering from a medical ailment, you can find out which herbs help, and try them in a herbal infusion. All the common healing herbs can be found loose leaf or in bags at your local natural health shop or supermarket. The packaging will usually tell you what ailment the brew is claimed to help. Alternatively, you could consult the internet to find out which herbs might give you a boost. Why not order some trial packs direct from tea retailers in order to find out which flavors excite your taste buds!
When you’ve selected the herb you wish to try, you can brew it in several different ways. If you have bought herbal tea bags then the job is very easy – simply boil some good quality water in a kettle or sauce pan and then pour the water into your mug containing the tea bag. Herbal teas should never be brewed using boiling water as this can damage the herbs and remove some of the beneficial qualities. So, remember to wait until your boiling water has cooled down a bit before pouring it over your tea bag. Some herbal teas are loose-leaf, so you will need a tea pot with a strainer inside it or a separate strainer to remove the herb from the water. Brewing time should be between 3 and 5 minutes depending on how strong you would like your tea.
A lovely hot herbal tea is a gentle way to improve your wellness and you will be sampling what people have practiced for centuries – herbal medicine, the ancient complementary therapy. Put some time into doing the research and reap a range of wellbeing benefits.
