Perfect weather for Father’s Day activities
So far this has been a “Chamber of Commerce” weather weekend around Fredericksburg and it will continue today for Father’s Day. A few spots are seeing fog this morning as the temperature bottoms out and matches the dewpoint but any murkiness will burn off quickly. Speaking of dewpoints the current readings in the low 50s are almost unheard of this late in June. That dry air will combine with a high temperature in the mid-80s this afternoon to provide another great day for outdoor activities.
This is all thanks to the cold front that swept through during the wee hours of Saturday morning leaving behind this dryer and cooler airmass. While our weather has been delightful our distant neighbors in the Great Plains have been dealing with severe storms that have produced tornadoes and baseball sized hail. Here is a graphic from the Aviation Weather Center that shows a huge squall line pushing across Missouri, eastern Kansas, and Oklahoma even at this hour (numbers x 100 = cloud top heights):
We won’t see this kind of heavy weather around here anytime soon but the coming work week will heat up. After today the thermometer will climb back into the 90s with scattered afternoon thunderstorms returning by Tuesday. Thus it would be a good idea to get out and enjoy the weather today!!
