LAS VEGAS — Developers have announced a new name and an opening date for a once-stalled open-air mall in the master-planned Las Vegas community of Summerlin.
The Howard Hughes Corporation announced Thursday that the “Shops at Summerlin Centre” project has been renamed “Downtown Summerlin,” and will open October 9.
Construction on the shopping center was in progress when the recession hit, and building stopped in the fall of 2008. The steel frame was exposed to the elements for years until construction roared back to life again last summer.
The complex is set to include more than 125 stores and restaurants, a five-screen movie theater and a nine-story upscale office building.
It’s the first phase of a planned, 400-acre urban core for Summerlin that will eventually include offices, hotels and housing.
