The site lets users enter their shopping list and then works out how and where they can save cash – on average, a whopping 25%.

Whether it’s cashing in by bulk-buying, switching supermarkets or changing to a better value brand, this is the go-to place for savvy shoppers.

launched in 2006 and currently boasts four million monthly visitors.

“Customers can see where the best place is to make their purchases, and make sure that they are getting the right prices at the right time.”

It’s used by 10% of UK households, and the number is growing as more Brits switch on to the savings to be made.

The site compares and provides the latest price data from nine stores – supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose and Aldi, plus Ocado, Boots and Superdrug.

Kate McGee, mySupermarket director of marketing, explains: “It allows users to shop across nine stores to optimise their grocery shop. We offer a wealth of information from pricing, promotions and product information to make their shopping as easy as possible.

“Customers can see where the best place is to make their purchases, and make sure that they are getting the right prices at the right time.

“We’re independent from the retailers, so we work for the customer. We want to make sure they get the best value on each and every shop.”

The website is simple to use and customers can start saving straight away.

Kate adds: “It’s very user-friendly. As you add items to the cart, you can view the entire trolley across all nine stores to get a comparison of the price of the goods from each outlet.

“We also have Savvy Buys – items with at least 30% off their average price.

“So instead of going in-store and getting confused by all the promotions, users can see the really good deals. There’s also a Swap And Save feature where, when a customer adds an item to their cart, we show options for switching the products to get value.”

The average basket size is £80, and people tend to save on average between £17 and £20 per shop.

As well as the site, there’s also a mobile app called which allows users to take their shopping list with them to the supermarket.

“The app is an on-the-go version of the site,” explains Kate. “You build a list on the site, or on the app, and you can take your list in-store and make realtime comparisons.

“So say you’re in the cereal aisle and you want to make sure you’re getting the best price for Cheerios, you can scan the barcode of the item and compare to other retailers.”

Anyone with access to a computer or smart phone can enjoy using mySupermarket straightaway.

Shoppers just need to register on the website, which takes about a minute.

Choose which supermarket you want to use, then it is as easy to fill your basket or look through prices and deals as it is to visit the retailer’s own site. Mobile phone users just need to download the free application mySuperList which should also appear under a search for “mySupermarket”.

Shoppers can browse by category, search for individual products and scan item barcodes to see where they can get the best deals.

Kate adds: “Our mission is to make promotions, prices and deals transparent and give the information you might not have if you just walked into the store.”
