Kick back: the Discovery Coast

A big night out in the town of Seventeen Seventy always ends up at the Tree Bar. It usually starts at the Tree Bar, too. There aren’t a whole lot of outlets in Seventeen Seventy, and the Tree Bar – with great burgers, a sprawling verandah and water views – is the place to be.

The fact that there’s not a whole lot going on is precisely what makes Seventeen Seventy special. Nestled on a sheltered inlet halfway between Gladstone and Bundaberg, Seventeen Seventy and its nearby neighbour, the laid-back town of Agnes Water, are perfect for a get-away-from-it-all break. A holiday here is about bushwalking and beachcombing, fishing and swimming. Relax and repeat.

There are some options for those who want a little more action. You can hire an electric bike or go touring on a 50cc motorbike; you can take an amphibious tour of the nearby national park or go on a day trip to the reef, snorkelling at Lady Musgrave Island.
