Kathio State Park events:

 

• I Can Fish!: Friday, June 20, 3 – 5 p.m. Learn all about fishing – identifying species, casting and more. All equipment is provided. Minnesota residents do not need a fishing license for this activity. Meet at the Interpretive Center.

 

• Kathio Wildlife: Saturday, June 21, 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. Discuss loons, woodpeckers, deer, porcupines and wildlife that live, forage and hunt the woods and waters of Kathio. Meet at the Interpretive Center.

 

• Kids’ activity – pop can casting: Saturday, June 21, 2 – 3 p.m. Learn about some of the fish that people like to catch at Kathio State Park, and take home a fishing rig that you will make from a pop can. Designed for kids age 7 and older, but it’s also good for younger children who have help from parents. Meet at the Interpretive Center.

 

• Nature film – All About Bears: Sunday, June 22, 10:30 – 11 a.m. This nature film will be shown at the Interpretive Center.

 

 

Father Hennepin State Park events:

 

• Kids activity – tree detectives: Friday, June 20, 1 – 1:45 p.m. Learn how to use the right “clues” to tell “who’s who” among trees of the forest … and take home a small “souvenir” you make yourself. All ages welcome! Meet in Lakeview Picnic Area for this 45-minute activity.

 

• Archery in the park: Saturday, June 21, 10 a.m. – noon. Join certified archery instructors for hands-on coaching. Suitable for ages 8 and older. Children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Equipment is provided. Personal archery equipment is not allowed due to state law. In case of rain this program will be canceled. In the Lakeview Picnic Area between 10 a.m. and noon.

 

• Introduction to geocaching: Saturday, June 21, 4 – 4:45 p.m. Learn about GPS and the great sport of Geocaching. Bring your own GPS unit or use one of ours. Meet in Lakeview Picnic Area.

 

Friends of the Soo Line Trail meeting: June 18, 7 p.m. at the Wahkon Presbyterian Church.

 

 

Nitti’s Hunters Point Resort bass tournament: Saturday, June 21. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities-Upper Midwest. Katelin Sawyer Memorial bass tournament: Saturday, June 28, at Nitti’s Hunters Point. Tournament from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with awards to follow. Hog roast after awards. 6th annual Knap-In and fur traders camp: July 10 – 13, 7 miles north of Milaca. Participants make arrowheads and knife blades from rock the way Native Americans did.
