The Damage And Danger Caused By Diabetes

We all know that type two diabetes is bad for you but how many of you can tell me just what issues it’s likely to cause? It’s very possible to live a long life with type two diabetes and never experience the nastiest symptoms. For those who don’t control their condition there’s a good chance that they’ll experience at least one of the following if not death itself.

Heart Attack

Heart disease is much more common in people who suffer from diabetes in general. Keeping you diabetes under control can help to lessen the possibility but by being a diabetic your risk factor is immediately heightened.  Heart disease and stroke are the two leading causes of death in diabetics and as such this risk should be treated very seriously indeed!

Stroke

If you notice the symptoms of stroke in anyone around you then the faster you can call and ambulance the more likely they are to survive. Stroke is one of the two highest causes of fatality in diabetics.

Nerve Damage

Otherwise known as diabetic neuropathy, this condition is caused when high blood-sugar levels over long periods of time affect the transition of the nerves causing numbness in the extremities. On its own this isn’t so terrible but when you think that people who can’t feel their feet won’t notice damage done to them, meaning that tiny cuts can get infected and gangrenous. This condition is the main reason a diabetic may have to have a foot removed.

Kidney Damage

As the kidneys will be working overtime to filter the blood-sugar in a patient whose diabetes is under control, they’ll get burnt out and stop working as effectively. Weakened kidneys will lead to kidney damage and the necessitation for transplant.

Blindness

This is caused by micro-vascular damage done to the tiny blood vessels which make up our eyes and takes a long time but can eventually lead to blindness. The degradation is subtle at first and can be easily missed often until it’s too late to do anything about it.
