The Jackson Hole Art Auction is pleased to announce the offering of Howard Terpning’s “Major North and the Pawnee Battalion” in the September 13, 2014 sale.

 

The 36 x 58 inch oil, dated 1989, is an important historical scene, depicting Major North giving scouting orders to the Pawnee, enlisted to assist the US Army. The painting is estimated at $800,000-$1,200,000.

 

“Major North and the Pawnee Battalion” has been exhibited at the 24th Cowboy Artist Show and Sale (1989), the Tucson Museum of Art (2005), and the Terpning Retrospective exhibit at the Autry National Center (2012).

 

“Major North and the Pawnee Battalion” can currently be previewed in the Scottsdale, AZ auction office. The Jackson Hole Art Auction has also confirmed important works by Oscar Berninghhaus, John Clymer, Bob Kuhn, Richard Schmid, and many more.
