Machota: Why Kyle Orton will remain a Cowboy; Murray more valuable than Lee

SportsDay’s Jon Machota answered your questions in a chat Tuesday. Here are some highlights.

Question: More valuable to the Cowboys: Sean Lee or DeMarco Murray?

Jon Machota: So far it’s been DeMarco Murray. Murray has been on the field more. And to take a line from Jerry Jones, his arrow is pointing up. Murray is coming off his first 1,000-yard season. When he’s running well — I’ll now take a line from Jason Garrett — the Cowboys are the best version of themselves.

Question: Will Kyle Orton be in a Cowboys uniform for their regular-season opener?

Jon Machota: Tough call. I’m going to say yes just because he’s got a nice chunk of change coming his way.

Question: Will the Cowboys have answers regarding the futures of Brian Waters, Anthony Spencer, and Kyle Orton before the draft?

Jon Machota: I doubt it. Orton would be the most likely of the bunch. Waters still would need to have surgery to repair his torn triceps. Spencer is still recovering from the microfracture surgery he had on his left knee last year. There’s no guarantee that he’ll be 100 percent even by the start of training camp.

Question: As of today, can you tell me which players currently on the rosters will be defensive starters in Week 1? Thanks.

Jon Machota: Henry Melton, George Selvie, Terrell McClain, Sean Lee, Bruce Carter, Barry Church, Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne. That’s just my educated guess.
