Asbestos Floor Tile Will Be Removed From Two Schools
A contract firm will remove asbestos floor tiles from two Meramec Valley School District schools over the summer vacation.
The school board approved a contract for the removal at its April 16 board meeting.
Floors in the Meramec Valley Middle School annex upper and lower hallways and the FACS room are asbestos tile that will be removed and disposed of by the contractor.
The upper and lower hallways and the bus entrance at Coleman Elementary Annex also are comprised of asbestos tile that will be removed.
The district received five bids to remove and dispose of the asbestos tiles that ranged in cost from $18,199 to $46,314.
Following a recommendation from Chris Delmain, building services director, the school board approved awarding the contract to Midwest Service Group, St. Peters, the low bidder.
Delmain said the floors are in very poor condition and need to be replaced. The work will be funded by the maintenance department’s regular capital budget for 2014-15.
In the same meeting, the district approved a contract with C.I. Select, St. Louis, to install new VCT floor tile and base cover in the two buildings at a cost of $13,343. C.I. was the lowest of three bidders on the new floors. Other bids were $15,000 and $18,591.
