Champs an almighty success

THE Regional NSW Dressage Championships at Young have been hailed an enormous success after an action-packed three days of competition came to a close yesterday.
Some 185 riders and 250 horses made their way to Bendick Murrell Sportsgrounds where spectators were treated to an international standard of competition at the championships.
Bowral rider Sue Heard proved the star of the show with both FEI champions, winning the official competitive grand prix on Remmington with a score of 64.63.
Cowra’s Megan Bryant was close up in second on Northern Xanthus III in a strong performance.
Wagga’s Sharon Potter was another to excel as she took out the official competitive novice B with a big score on Beauparc Swayze.
Karen Skimmings also did the local riders proud and took out medium champion.
Young Dressage Club official Maryann Schiller said the three-day championships exceeded their expectations.
“It was a fantastic weekend,” Schiller said.
“There was such a high quality calibre of horses and a fantastic standard of local and international riders and horses.
“We’ve had a lot of positive feedback from riders, judges and sponsors…and we had massive crowds, lots more than we expected.”
The masterclass under lights on Friday night proved one of the highlights of the weekend.
David Shoobridge of Revelwood Stud conducted the masterclass with exhibition riders Gina Montgomery and Amanda Shoobridge on their stunning warmbloods.
“One of the big highlights was the masterclass,” Schiller said.
“We had a huge crowd, it was very informative and just amazing.”
Another highlight was when Megan Bryant and Brittanny Grovenor combined for a “very entertaining” pas de deux together that saw them take out the $100 best costume prize.
