Anzac Day football and netball across the region

FOOTBALL and netball competitions around the region will honour Anzac Day with matches this afternoon and tonight.

Springbank is set to host Buninyong at Wallace today before Clunes welcomes Bungaree later in the day in a double-header of fixtures in the Central Highlands league.

The Ballarat league also features two games – Ballarat against East Point and Darley against Bacchus Marsh – while the Maryborough Castlemaine District spotlight will be on the clash between Trentham and Maryborough Rovers.

Clunes’ and Trentham’s senior football games will be played under lights.

There is no Mininera and District match today, however, the North Ballarat Rebels also pull on the jumpers for an encounter against Calder Cannons in the under-18 TAC Cup.

The Rebels travel to Cragieburn today, with the game to begin at 1pm.

While there is plenty of local football to go watch, you can bet most households will have the AFL Anzac Day clash between Collingwood and Essendon tuned in to their TVs.

The first bounce is at 2.40pm from the MCG.

LADY DEVILS SET TO KICK OFF

The Ballarat Lady Devils launch their Football Federation Victoria women’s state league one campaign on Sunday.

After bombing out of the Women’s State Knockout Cup last week, Ballarat hosts Doncaster Rovers to get its regular season up and going.

Meanwhile, Ballarat Red Devils will look to get back on the National Premier Leagues Victoria winner’s list with a trip to play Pascoe Vale tomorrow.
