Generous Man Donates Martial Arts Classes to Bullied Boy After Video Airs on NewsWest 9

MIDLAND- NewsWest 9 recently showed a video of a boy getting beat up at Alamo Junior High that surfaced on social media. It’s a story that hit close to home for one West Texan. After seeing the story, Fily Lozoya decided he wanted to help.
“As a parent I would never like to see my kid in that situation,” Fily Lozoya, the man who made a generous donation, said.
Lozoya said he was heartbroken when he saw the video on our newscast last week of a boy being punched and pushed around at school.
“I don’t think bigger kids should take advantage of the little ones. I think it could really affect this little kids life,” Lozoya said.
Lozoya said he wanted to help, so he picked up the phone and called his good friend over at the Perez Martial Arts Academy in Midland.
“I decided to donate a year worth of classes and uniforms. If he continues with class, I am willing to continue the education of martial arts,” Lozoya said.
Juan Perez, the owner of the Perez Martial Arts Academy, said he’s seen a big increase in bullied kids being brought in to learn self-defense.
“I have a lot of parents coming in here wanting their kids to learn how to defend themselves. It’s a sad fact of life. It seems to be an increase in bullying,” Perez said.
Cindy Castellon, the mother of bullied boy, said she is more than grateful for the generous donation.
“It makes me feel good because there’s actually people out there that care about what’s going on about people bullying. I really appreciate it,” Castellon said.
Lozoya only hopes this will help put the bullying to an end.
“I would like for him to be more confident in himself,” Lozoya said.
