Kaitlin Kamm broke the UMAC record in the women 100m hurdles, finishing in 15.68s to help the Cougars take second place at the UMAC Championships on Saturday, May 3.
The University of Minnesota, Morris men’s and women’s track and field team had great meets on Saturday, May 3, both finishing second place in the 2014 UMAC Outdoor Track and Field Meet in Morris. The women finished with 200 points and the men finished with 223, less than 10 behind first place St. Scholastica. FULL RESULTS
Kaitlin Kamm won a pair of events on the day to pace the Cougars on the womens side.
Kamm won the 100m hurdles in a time of 15.28; she set the meet record in the prelims. She also won the high jump with a height of 1.59m and was third in the 400m hurdles.
Laura Borkenhagen, Tanna Boyle, Rachel Wingenbach and Hannah Goemann teamed up to win the 4x800m relay in a meet record time of 10:03.32. Another relay team, this one consisting of Kelsi Kolle, Clair Sylvestre, Teja Foy and Anna Peterson won the 4x100m relay in a time of 52.17.
Linda Keller won the 1500m run in a time of 4:53.94 and was third in the 800m run after running the race in a time of 2:35.26. Carly Denler won the pole vault with a height of 1.85m.
Teja Foy was second in the 200m dash in a time of 27.28. Rachel Wingenbach took second in the 5000m running the race in a time of 19:14.35. Tori Holt was second in the shot put after a throw of 13.00m. Amber Hosie was second in the hammer after a toss of 45.08m; she was then third in the javelin with a mark of 29.79m and third in the discus with a mark of 37.09m.
For the men, it was one of the closest meets in UMAC history, but the Cougars came up just eight points shy of winning the 2014 UMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. It came down to the final few races to decide the winner.
The men had 11 individual champions on the day, including a few athletes who took first in more than one event. Chalmer Combellick had three individual first place finishes and one second place in a relay. His day started with a meet record in the 1500m taking first place in 4:03.76. He then ran the 400m in a time of 51.11, which was the top time before winning the 800m in a time of 1:58.40. In the final race of the day, he ran the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay as the Cougars took second.
Alex Ukkelburg took first in the javelin and the pole vault, winning the javelin with a throw of 48.00m and his height of 3.92m was tops in the pole vault.
The points came quick for UMM, as the relay team of Josiah Rieimer, Otto Marckell, Conor Garrity and Mike Okeson won the 4x800m in a time of 8:43.09. Caleb Schneider won the 300m in a time of 10:07.17, less than 1.5 second from setting a new UMAC record. Schneider also took first in the 3000m Steeplechase event, over 10 seconds ahead of second place finisher from Bethany Lutheran whom he trailed up until the last few laps.
The 4x100m relay team of Ben Shabb, Tony Ceroll, Nic Solberg and Leandro Dower took first in a time of 43.73. Nathan Harder set a new UMAC record in the 110m hurdles, beating out teammate Ryan DeRoeck with a time of 15.06. DeRoeck had a championship of his own, winning the 400m hurdles in a time of 56.47. He also scored points in the triple jump and high jump, taking second in both with a jump of 13.29m and a height of 1.85m, respectively.
Dower won the 200m in a time of 22.44 rounding out the 11 events in which the Cougars took home first place.
