The Shelton Invitational, one of the more prestigious high school track and field meets in Washington, is the latest testimonial to Justin Kaelin’s prowess in the shot put.
The Eatonville High School junior won his specialty again last Saturday, topping the Shelton field with a mark of 57 feet 7 inches.
The win came on the heels of a victory in the Oregon Relays at the University of Oregon April 20 and keeps him undefeated in a season that has established him as one of the state’s premier shot put competitors and a heavy favorite to win the class 1A state championship later this month.
Schools of all enrollment sizes competed in the Shelton meet, in which Eatonville had three top-five individual finishers and placed ninth as a team. In addition to Kaelin, Jeff Patterson was second in the 300 hurdles in 40.42 seconds, and Joe Evans placed fifth in the long jump at 20 feet 3.5 inches.
Ignoring the rain, Eatonville’s Justin Kaelin won the shot put with an effort of 57 feet 7 inches in the Shelton Invitational high school track meet.
