Local track teams kicked off May competition by setting a bevy of personal bests. The Conant boys team won their meet against Campbell, Portsmouth Christian, Hillsboro-Deering, Raymond, WLC, and Derryfield on May 1.
Coach Erin Kelly was very pleased with the team’s performance. “The boys performed exceptionally with lots of points earned and personal records,” said Kelly.
Justin Haase won the shot put, and placed second in both the javelin and the discus. Austin Goulet scored in all of his events, placing second in the long jump, sixth in the 200 and tying Nathan Wheeler for first in the high jump. Aaron Bresnick and Tyler Sands came in second and third in the 200. Sands also finished second in the 100 and third in the discus. The boys 4×400 team of Oliver Desrosiers, Alex Tenney, Austin Stacey and Aaron Bresnick improved their time by almost 10 seconds running a 4:07.43. Dane Seppala won the 1600 with a nine second personal best of 5:02.09. Also scoring for the Orioles were; Taylor Soles, Derek Williams and Colby Whitcomb.
On the girls side, the Orioles placed third as a team. Alysha Smith had an excellent meet, placing second in the 100 and 200. Smith then ran with Shannia Aho, Jammie and Jessie Mascetti to a second place finish in the 4×100 with a season best time of 54.88. Shannon Weiderman scored for the team in both the 1600 and the 3200. April Langly scored in the long jump and the 800. Jammie Mascetti placed second in the discus, and Courtney Milette placed 4th in the shot put, both throwing personal bests. Mascetti also placed second in the 100 meter hurdles and qualified for the state meet in the pole vault.
WLC placed fourth overall, just seven points behind Conant.
For the Warriors girls, senior Tori Lorvig placed sixth in the 400 and third in the 3200 with times of 1:36 and 16:26.41. In the 800, the Warriors’ Kelsey Randlett placed second overall in 2:53.25, while teammate Alex Schoen was seventh in 3:47.11. Randlett also ran the 1600, placing sixth with a time of 7:12.05. In the 100 hurdles, Katie Hanish finished fifth in 21.25 and teammate Emma Kross was seventh in 21.60. Kross also competed in the long jump, placing forth overall with a jump of 4 feet, 2 inches. Caitlyn Wittenauer and Jessica Schultz took first and second in the triple jump with jumps of 21 feet, 4 inches, and 20 feet, 9 inches.
The Warriors also fared well in the throws. Alyssa Minott and Hannah Bailey placed third and forth in the discuss throw.
For the men, Matt Guyotte and John Lemire placed second and fifth in the 100 with times of 12.25 and 12.5. Adam Teger placed forth in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, 5 inches. Teger also placed second in the triple jump, jumping 36 feet, while teammate Dylan Boot was third with a jump of 27 feet, 3 inches.
