Saltwater

 

Oregon Inlet

Buxton/Hatteras

Ocracoke/Portsmouth

Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

 

Offshore fishing has been strong as wahoo, blackfin and some dolphin have been biting ballyhoos. Inshore, puppy drum and speckled trout are being hooked. Contact: EJW Outdoors 252-247-4725; Portside Marina 252-726-7678; www.ncoif.com.

 

 

Topsail Island

 

Sea mullet and blue fish are biting near the piers, while speckled trout can be located on the sound side. Bonitos can be found two to three miles off the shore and can be hooked with diamond jigs. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle 910-328-1887, www.eastcoastsports.com.

 

 

Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach

 

Fishermen are catching good numbers of small trout, mostly from creek mouths and deeper marsh banks, with fresh shrimp. There has still been plenty of red drum around the docks and creeks, while the topwater fishing has picked up. Southport/Sunset Beach

Freshwater

 

Falls Lake

 

Crappie are being caught in abundance around 6-8 feet deep with minnows. Bass can be found anywhere from 2-10 feet down and are being caught with wacky worms and spinner bait. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 251.97, full pool 264.8. Contact: Outhouse Tackle 919-217-0085; www.wmi.org.

 

 

Jordan Lake

 

Crappie are biting around 4-5 feet down, while largemouth bass can be located at a variety of depths. Soft plastics and spinner baits have been successful. Kerr Lake

Lake Wheeler

Shearon Harris Lake
