GUILDERLAND First responders rescued two men after they were allegedly drinking and jumped off a bridge into shallow water, according to police.
The Guilderland Police Department received a call around 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, reporting two “young men” were consuming alcohol on the French’s Hollow Foot Bridge over the Normans Kill Creek. Shortly after the call, police received a second call claiming the two men had jumped off the bridge into the shallow creek 50 feet below.
Police arrived at the scene and found a semi-conscious 21-year-old Schenectady man in the water, who was allegedly unable to move due to his injuries. There was also a 22-year-old Middleburgh man who was treated for minor injuries.
Guilderland Emergency Medical Service, Guilderland Center Fire Department, Altamont Fire Department, Slingerlands Fire Department and Colonie EMS assisted Guilderland police to perform a water rope rescue.
Both men were transported to Albany Medical Center. The Schenectady man as of Monday, May 5, was still in the hospital being treated for “serious injuries,” according to police.
