Planning chiefs give green light for Henry Moore sculpture in King’s Cross
A THREE-FOOT Henry Moore sculpture is set to be placed in front of the new-look King’s Cross station.
Council planning chiefs finally gave consent for the bronze artwork, title Large Spindle Piece, on Friday, following months of negotiations to secure a high-profile installation.
The request had been made by Network Rail, which wants to launch a programme of public art for the new public square outside the station, “curated” alongside the Town Hall.
Planning papers said the sculpture has been donated for free – on a temporary basis – by the Henry Moore Foundation.
The sculptor, who died in 1986, spent part of his life living and working at a studio in Parkhill Road, Belsize Park.
English Heritage warned that the application should not lead to further kiosks and street furniture blocking views to the Grade I-listed station.
