Students frustrated as beauty school closes

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A Portland beauty school is closing at the end of the month, leaving some of the students in the lurch without graduating.
Many want their money back from Marinello School of Beauty.
The students are upset and worried about their future. Many feel they should be relieved of any student debt they’ve incurred.
Five students came out of the school and spoke with KOIN 6 News to say they haven’t gotten the education they sought.
“This whole time I’ve been coming here, since August 5, teachers have quit, the school director quit, the school receptionist has quit,” Quenneisha Hall said. “We have not gotten the proper education that we were promised. We’re basically on our own. YouTube teaches us more than the teachers teach us.”
Not everyone felt that way though.
“My experience has been amazing here,” Meribeth Malone told KOIN 6 News. “Any educaiton you’re going to have your ups and downs, but I feel that you get what you put in.”
She also said all Marinello students are being offered spots at other beauty schools in the area.
The school’s regional manager declined to comment. A message from KOIN 6 News to the corporate public relations department has not been returned at this time.
There has also been no response yet from the Oregon State Board of Education regarding any formal complaints about Marinello’s.
KOIN 6 News will follow this story.
