SEOUL, May 9 (Yonhap) — South Korea’s tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. was named as the third most preferred workplace among global job seekers, a Dutch researcher said Friday, reflecting its rising presence in the world.

Samsung ranked after Germany’s BMW AG and Japan’s Sony Corp., according to the Randstad Award 2014 Report released by the Netherlands-based human resources firm Randstad.

The result was based on a survey of 195,018 students from 23 countries around the globe conducted from September-December last year. Of the respondents, 85.9 percent responded they were aware of Samsung Electronics and 57.1 expressed intention to work at the firm.

The world’s No. 1 maker of smartphones was named as the most attractive workplace in Canada, Hong Kong and France, the report also showed.

Around 61 percent of the surveyed who were aware of BMW said they wished to work for the German carmaker, and Sony held a comparable figure of 59.7 percent.
