SCOTTSDALE – Desert Stages Theatre presents the Disney favorite, Aladdin Jr., Fri., May 16 – Sun., June 22.

Aladdin Jr. transforms Cullity Hall into Agrabah, the city of enchantment, where Aladdin, Jasmine and the Genie set the scene for another delightful On Stage production. Filled with magic, mayhem and flying carpet rides, the tuneful, Academy Award-winning score features unforgettable songs such as “A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me.”

The story of Aladdin is a Middle Eastern folk tale that is in The Book of One Thousand and One Nights (“The Arabian Nights”), but did not appear until the 18th century with the addition by Frenchman, Antoine Galland after he learned the story from a Syrian storyteller, Aleppo. The story went on to many adaptations, from its first film in 1926, to books, pantomimes and more; today’s most popular adaptation of the story is Disney’s animated film from 1992. Other renditions of the story of Aladdin have appeared in musical theatre, comics and video games.
