One of the city’s most eclectic and loved ‘running’ events is moving to Canalside. The Stiletto Run will no longer be held on Elmwood Avenue. Instead it will be transitioned to the waterfront, a site that the event committee has deemed is the perfect place for the race to grow. It’s also a great place to host a post-race party. Over the years, the Stiletto Run has grown in participants and observers. The culminating party has been held in the parking lot of The Lexington Co-op.
In 2014, the 7th annual Stiletto run, benefitting The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, will now be open to “fun shoe wearers” (walkers or a runners) who are looking to participate in a run that is surprisingly competitive and socially engaging at the same time. The Canalside location will go a long way towards enhancing the social (party) aspect of the race. This year food trucks will be on-hand at the “The Blue Stiletto” party to ensue.
“Not only does the Stiletto Run raise thousands of dollars for Ovarian Cancer research, but it is also an opportunity to show support for those diagnosed with the disease,” said Sean Bready, event organizer since 2011. “Couple that with the chance to showcase the development and progress at Buffalo’s waterfront and this is an ideal summer event for Buffalo.”
“We are honored to support the Stiletto Run in memory of my sister Dawn Marie, who passed away 8 years ago from Ovarian Cancer,” said Michael Poczkalski, partner and senior designer at room Buffalo. “We need to push for more research and hope this event will raise awareness in our community. Let’s run in style for her, and for the many women who have been affected by this disease.”

A portion of the event proceeds will benefit The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. Pre-registration for the event is $30 or $35 on the day of the event. “The Blue Stiletto” party (music, food and other entertainment) will end at 9 pm

According to The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance’s website, “Each year, approximately 20,000 American women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and about 15,000 women die of the disease. In 2014, it is estimated that 21,980 women in the United States will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and 14,270 women will die from the disease.”
*The Stiletto Run welcomes all fun shoe wearers, whether you are a walker or a runner. In order to be eligible for placing prizes, runners must be registered and complete the race in a shoe with a minimum heel height of three inches. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded to the first three to cross the finish line.
