Lexington Shooting Victim’s Family Struggles

A January double shooting has had a trickledown effect on the family of one of the men hit inside his Winding Brook apartment on Cambridge drive.

The cost of his medication alone has the family struggling to make ends meet.

May 17 will mark four months since the victim came face to face with three intruders inside his home.

“We don’t know who the shooter is, what’s going on, or if they’re going to catch them” the victim’s sister said.

That means a great deal of fear for the family, which is exactly why they are not being identified.

The family’s frustration stems from no arrests in the case and because life is so drastically different now.

“We’ve accepted that he’ll never be the same. It’s the way he is. We’ve accepted the fact that he is here with us. We’re happy we still have our days with him,” the sister said.

The 35-year-old victim had just returned home from cashing a check January 17 when he walked in and found his roommate with a gun to his head.

“He came back trying to be a hero and in the process of him being a hero, he got shot twice and now he’s paralyzed on his left side. He needs 24 hour care,” the sister said.

The medication that keeps his system functioning is costing the family $2,500 a month.

The sister has lost two jobs and struggles to keep the bills paid while all of her finances go into keeping her brother alive.

“It’s putting me in a bind to where, I don’t know what to do,” she said.
