Exploring the Seven Chakras

People who have knowledge and experience of Eastern philosophies are probably well-acquainted with the term-chakra. For those in the dark, chakras are elements that form the body’s energy system and constitute what is referred to as people who practice advanced meditation-techniques as the chakra system.

The chakra system is thought to provide many important functions for the body’s mind, spirit and soul, and consists of seven separate components, which each performing a different and very specific function:

For instance, the Root Chakra is considered to be the foundation of all chakras and is signified by the colour red. It exists at the bottom of your spine and helps to maintain feelings of security and warmth. It is considered to be the chakra that fosters a sense of belonging and community and grounds us to the earth. The Sacral Chakra is signified by the colour, orange and is located immediately below your belly-button. This chakra is connected to creativity, sexuality, passion and our desire for them. The Solar Plexus is to be found just below your ribs and is signified by the colour yellow. This chakra enhances mental clarity and creates our senses of personality and identity. The Heart Chakra is signified by the colour, green, and occupies a position in the centre of our bodies. As the name suggests, this is our central chakra, and as such forms our emotional core, allowing us to feel love, compassion and provides us the ability to forgive. The throat chakra serves as our communication centre and is located just below the throat. It is signified by the colour blue, and helps you to express yourself and be heard in the world. The Brow Chakra, is also known as the third eye and creates our sense of intuition and gut feelings, and is signified by the colour indigo. Finally, the Crown Chakra is signified by the colour purple and helps to install wisdom and knowledge within us.
