How to Deal with your Emotions

We talk about our emotions in many different ways.  Rudolf Steiner, a guru of “holistic” living, used the terms: ‘feeling’, ‘thinking’ and ‘willing’ in terms of how we are connecting to the world.  These terms relate to our personality types and our tendency to choose one emotional attitude over another.  Some of us think with the heart, and some with the head, so to speak.  Steiner’s terms also relate to how we perceive ourselves and where we are going in life.  The emotional life is the perfect place to start when building a life full of wellbeing.

Generally, to feel integrated with the outside world depends on expressing our feelings and thoughts, and if you are not connected to these sensations it will be difficult to express them.  Certainly in the modern world feelings can be left buried when they don’t need to be.  Our emotions are extremely important and live at the centre of our being.  From a holistic point of view, your heart is your middle Chakra and therefore the true balancing agent of your whole being: body, mind and spirit.

Counseling helps a lot of people to open up and express their feelings to those around them more effectively.  It is important to select a counselor that you feel comfortable with and who shows a good level of life experience.  They should ask you the right questions to make you open up and then help you to examine your emotional life. ‘Talking therapy’ can really improve your all round wellness because you gain a sense of empowerment by expressing your feelings fully.

Counseling is an extremely effective means of complementary self-development. It may take a few sessions to bring results, so be patient. Counseling is the perfect way to teach you how to express your will in the world, think more clearly by helping you to clarify how you are thinking, and most importantly get in touch with your heart!
