The Wonders of Essential Oils

Essential oils are more than just a beautiful scent; they also have healing benefits for specific conditions, or can simply boost your general wellbeing.

There is a lot of historical research confirming that essential oils were used as far back as 6,000 B.C.  Pots containing the essence of oils have been found in India, Egypt, China and the Middle East. Historians think the oils were mainly used for ritual, healing, perfume and intoxication purposes. The chemical composition of these oils has remained the same and even some of the methods of purifying them are similar today.

Your first time shopping for essential oils might be a little confusing.  There is a system of grades that will help you find the highest quality oil.  The Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG) is a system that grades the oils in levels of purity for; medicinal usage (Grade A), food grade (Grade B), or perfume grade oil (Grade C).  Grade A is the most pure and made by heating the original herbs at a high temperature, then extracting the active qualities. Grade B and C are of a lesser quality and may contain pesticides, additives or base oil. You can also check if the essential oil is Soil Association registered to ensure you get the highest quality organic oil.

Essential Oils offer a wide range of complementary healing benefits. Pharmacologically, the active qualities of the oils react with our enzymes and stimulate hormones when ingested.  Furthermore, they stimulate our olfactory senses to create a wide range of sensations.  When you enjoy a scent it actually changes your state of mind to enjoyment, pleasure, relaxation or stimulation.  And the benefits of pleasure to our overall wellbeing should never be underestimated!
