Woman, 88, jumps from 6th floor
An 88-year-old housewife jumped from the window of her sixth-floor Ghatkopar (West) home and succumbed to several head injuries and multiple fractures. She used to live with her two sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Cops suspect that she was mentally unstable and hence committed suicide.
Ghatkopar police said that Bholibai Pannalal Kothari, the victim, was walking around in her house as per routine and suddenly jumped off at around 6pm. The watchman of the building, Haresh Niwas, at LBS Road, saw her fall and alerted the family members. She was then rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
Kothari was suffering from various health issues and was under treatment for mental diseases as well. “My mother was suffering from some ailments and these could have driven her to end her life,” said Kothari’s son in a police statement.
Senior inspector Rajaram Vhanmane of Ghatkopar police station said, “No suicide note has been found in the deceased’s flat. The family members did not see her behave abnormally in last few days. We are recording statements of the family to know since when the elderly woman had been undergoing treatment.”
